The Act recognizes the inherent rights of Indigenous peoples, including their right to self-determination, autonomy, and the management of their lands, territories, and resources. It also acknowledges the historical injustices suffered by Indigenous peoples as a result of colonization and dispossession, and commits the Government of Canada to taking measures to address these injustices and promote reconciliation.
