Brief

The Renewable Energy (Electricity) (Large-scale Generation Shortfall Charge) Act 2000 is an Act of the Australian Parliament that imposes a large-scale generation shortfall charge. The Act defines the charge, its rate, and the entities liable to pay it. The charge is imposed on large-scale generators who fail to meet their renewable energy targets.

The Act was amended several times, with the most recent amendment being the Statute Update (Autumn 2018) Act 2018. The amendment updates the rate of the charge and brings the Act into line with changes to the renewable energy targets.

The Act does not impose a tax on property of any kind belonging to a State, and it binds the Crown in right of each of the States, the Australian Capital Territory, and the Northern Territory, but not the Commonwealth.

The Act was compiled on 19 June 2018, and it includes amendments up to Act No. 41, 2018. The compilation includes editorial changes, which are outlined in the endnotes.
