The Older Americans Act Amendments of 1986 was enacted on April 1, 1986, to increase authorized appropriations for commodity distribution and other purposes. The law amended the Older Americans Act of 1965, authorizing $127.8 million for fiscal year 1985, and increased funding levels to $144 million for fiscal years 1986 and 1987. It also added a new subsection to provide information on federal food processing programs. This act took effect on October 1, 1985.
