Brief

The Diplomatic Service (Special) Superannuation Regulations, 1988, were brought into effect to implement the provisions of the Diplomatic Service (Special) Superannuation Act. The regulations revoked the previous set of regulations and replaced them with new rules for the carrying out of the Act.

The key components of these regulations include the requirement for public officials to make written elections as per subsection 6(1) of the Act, which must be forwarded to the Minister within a specified period. Additionally, the regulations outline the basis for computing instalments under subsection 6(5), using the Canadian Life Table No. 2 (1941).

The regulations also provide for increased instalments upon request and specify documentation required by public officials for pension payments, including birth certificates, certificates of infirmity, marriage certificates, and proof of death.
