Brief
The Coal Research Assistance Act 1977 is an Australian legislation that relates to coal research. The Act may be cited as the Coal Research Assistance Act 1977 and comes into operation on the day it receives the Royal Assent.
The Act establishes a research account known as the Coal Research Trust Account, which is a trust account for the purposes of section 62A of the Audit Act 1901. Money to be paid into the Research Account includes amounts equal to the amount determined by the Minister under subsection (2) multiplied by the number of tonnes of coal on which amounts of duty of excise are raised from time to time.
The Act also establishes a system for research advisory committees, which are appointed or declared to be research advisory committees. The Minister may appoint persons as a research advisory committee and request them to furnish recommendations.
