Brief
The Child Abuse Amendments of 1984 Act was passed on October 9, 1984, and aims to extend and improve provisions related to child abuse and neglect and adoption. The law makes amendments to various sections of the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act, including the definition of child abuse and neglect, and requires States to have procedures in place for responding to reports of medical neglect. It also authorizes additional grants to States for developing programs and services for disabled infants with life-threatening conditions. Additionally, it establishes a national information and research clearinghouse on family violence prevention and makes appropriations for this purpose.
