Brief

The Health Workforce Australia (Abolition) Act 2014 is an Act that abolishes Health Workforce Australia and makes various related provisions. The Act commences on 24 September 2014, with some provisions taking effect immediately and others on a specific date.

The Act repeals the Health Workforce Australia Act 2009 and amends certain provisions of that Act. It also includes transitional provisions to ensure a smooth transition for the Commonwealth and HWA staff.

One of the key changes is the transfer of assets and liabilities from HWA to the Commonwealth, which takes effect on 25 September 2014. This includes the vesting of land, official records, and other matters.

The Act also provides for the continuation of certain proceedings and investigations pending at the commencement time, as well as the operation of old laws in relation to new ones.

Additionally, the Act includes provisions for the transfer of staff, exemptions from stamp duty and other State or Territory taxes, and compensation for acquisitions of property.

The Minister may make rules in relation to transitional matters arising out of the amendments and repeals made by this Schedule. The Act receives Royal Assent on 24 September 2014.
