The report highlights that only 37% of Europe's surface water bodies achieved 'good' or 'high' ecological status. Europe's groundwaters fare better than surface waters, but problems remain due to pollution by pesticides and nutrients. European Environment Agency, measures taken by Member States have not led to an overall improvement in the state of EU waters since the last monitoring cycle.
