Brief

The Undertaking Spam, Spyware, and Fraud Enforcement With Enforcers beyond Borders Act (U.S. SAFE WEB Act) aims to enhance the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) enforcement against spam, spyware, and cross-border fraud and deception. The Act amends existing laws to provide the FTC with new powers, including the ability to share information with foreign law enforcement agencies and to request assistance from them in investigations. It also authorizes the FTC to expend funds for cooperative arrangements with foreign agencies and to conduct staff exchanges with foreign government agencies. Additionally, the Act provides a sunset provision, requiring the FTC to report on its use of new authorities every three years, and makes various conforming amendments to existing laws.
