Brief

The Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability, and Documentation (TREAD) Act amends title 49 of the United States Code to require reports concerning defects in motor vehicles or tires or other motor vehicle equipment in foreign countries. The law enhances the Secretary's ability to carry out provisions by establishing early warning reporting requirements for manufacturers. It also requires manufacturers to report determinations of safety recalls or campaigns and to provide information on claims submitted for serious injuries and aggregate statistical data on property damage. Additionally, the law establishes regulations for the sale or lease of defective or noncompliant tires and conduct a study on obtaining information regarding insurance claims for private passenger automobile accidents.
