THE INDIAN NURSING COUNCIL ACT, 1947
This Act constitutes an Indian Nursing Council to establish a uniform standard of training for nurses, midwives, and health visitors. The Act comes into force immediately after its enactment.

THE SCHEDULE
The Act has a Schedule that lists recognized qualifications, including general nursing certificates, diplomas, and degrees issued by various authorities such as the Government of Tamil Nadu, Bombay Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Council, and others.
KEY PROVISIONS
- The Indian Nursing Council will have a president elected from among its members.
- The Council will have an Executive Committee consisting of nine members elected by the Council from among its members.
- The Council may recognize qualifications granted by authorities in other countries if they meet certain standards.
- The Council may require information about courses of study and training and examinations to be conducted for the recognition of qualifications.
EXTENT OF THE ACT
The Act extends to the whole of India, except for the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
