The Reduction of Recidivism Framework Act, enacted in 2021, aims to establish a federal framework to reduce recidivism among individuals who have been incarcerated. The Act recognizes that nearly one in four people reoffend within two years of their release and seeks to provide them with necessary resources and employment opportunities for successful reintegration into society. To achieve this, the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness must develop a framework in consultation with various stakeholders, including Indigenous governing bodies, non-governmental organizations, and private sector entities. The framework is expected to include measures such as pilot projects, standardized programs, and access to adequate resources for rehabilitation.
