Recommendations of the Advisory Committee to the Director, CDC, Concerning the NIH Intramural Laboratory Safety Program, May 4, 2015

The Advisory Committee to the Director, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), met on April 23, 2015, to consider a report on laboratory safety practices at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The committee unanimously approved forwarding the enclosed report to the HHS Secretary, which includes recommendations on laboratory safety improvements at NIH. These recommendations include expanding resources for biosafety staff, revising Institutional Biosafety Committee protocols, and implementing a "Culture of Safety" survey tool to gauge areas for improvement in laboratory and research safety programs.
