The Public Health Agency of Canada Act establishes the Public Health Agency of Canada as a federal public administration agency, responsible for assisting the Minister of Health in exercising powers and performing duties related to public health. The Act creates the position of Chief Public Health Officer, who serves as the lead health professional on public health matters and provides advice to the Minister. The President of the Agency is appointed by the Governor in Council and serves as the chief executive officer. The Agency has the authority to collect, analyze, interpret, publish, and distribute information related to public health, as well as protect confidential information. The Act also makes consequential amendments to other federal statutes, including the Department of Health Act and the Quarantine Act.
