Brief

The Product Liability Risk Retention Act of 1981 was amended by Public Law 98-193 on December 1, 1983. The amendment clarified that the law does not affect state tort laws or insurance contract interpretations. State definitions of product liability and insurance were also excluded from federal application for risk retention groups or purchasing groups recognition. This change aimed to preserve state authority in these areas.
