Brief
The Health Insurance (Pathology) (Fees) Act 1991 is an Australian law that deals with fees payable for certain purposes of the Health Insurance Act 1973. The Act has been amended several times, with the most recent amendment being made by the Health Insurance (Pathology) Amendment Act 2015.
The Act provides for the payment of fees to the Commonwealth in respect of accepting approved pathology practitioner undertakings and authority undertakings under subsection 23DC(1) and 23DF(1) of the Health Insurance Act, as well as approving premises as an accredited pathology laboratory.
The fees payable are as follows: $500 for the acceptance of an approved pathology practitioner undertaking, $1,500 for the acceptance of an approved pathology authority undertaking, and a varying amount depending on the category of accreditation for the approval of premises as an accredited pathology laboratory.
The fee in respect of the acceptance of an approved pathology practitioner undertaking or an approved pathology authority undertaking is payable by the person who gave the undertaking at any time after it has been accepted under the Health Insurance Act. The fee in respect of the approval of premises as an accredited pathology laboratory is payable by the person who applied for the approval, at any time after the premises have been so approved in principle.
The compilation includes editorial changes made to the Act prior to its registration, and notes on amendments that were not given effect as intended due to misdescription.
