The Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999, contains the Fuels Information Regulations. These regulations apply to fuels in liquid form that originate from crude oils, coal or bituminous sands. The regulations require individuals and companies producing or importing these fuels in Canada to submit information about their production or importation.
Specifically, if a person produces or imports more than 400 cubic meters of a fuel within a calendar year, they must submit the required information on Form 1 within 31 days after the end of the year. This form includes details such as the type and quantity of fuel produced or imported, its API gravity or density, and its sulphur content.
Additionally, if a person imports a fuel that contains an additive other than lead or lead compounds, they must submit information about this additive on Form 2 within 60 days after selling a cumulative total of 400 cubic meters of the fuel containing the additive. The form requires details such as the type and quantity of the fuel, its manufacturer or importer, and the additive's concentration and purpose.
The regulations also specify that all submitted information must be sent electronically in a specified format and signed by an authorized official. If electronic submission is impractical due to circumstances beyond the person's control, they can send the information on paper instead.
