Brief

The Regulations Prescribing Exclusions from Certain Definitions of the Criminal Code (International Sporting Competition Handguns) were made by His Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Justice. The regulations are pursuant to the definitions prescribed in subsection 84(1) and to subsection 117.15(1) of the Criminal Code.


The regulations exclude certain handguns from the definition prohibited firearm in subsection 84(1) of the Criminal Code. These excluded handguns are listed in the schedule, which includes a variety of models made by different manufacturers such as Benelli, S&W, Erma, Hammerli, High Standard, Manurhin, Pardini, Sako, Unique, Vostok, and Walther.


The regulations also exclude handgun barrels that are components or parts of excluded handguns from the definition prohibited device in subsection 84(1) of the Criminal Code. These excluded handgun barrels are also listed in the schedule.


These regulations come into force on December 1, 1998.
