'The Department of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Act' establishes a new department of the Government of Canada with the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities as its head. The Act sets out the powers, duties, and functions of the Minister, including supporting and promoting infrastructure projects and initiatives that foster the prosperity, inclusivity, and environmental sustainability of communities. It also provides for the appointment of a Deputy Minister and the establishment of advisory committees to assist in the exercise of the Minister's powers and duties. The Act applies to both the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities and the Minister of Housing, who are empowered to make grants, contributions, and collaborate with other federal, provincial, or territorial departments, local governments, Indigenous bodies, institutions, or persons.
