Brief

The Computer Security Act of 1987 was enacted on January 8, 1988. The Act established a computer standards program within the National Bureau of Standards and provided for Government-wide computer security. It also required mandatory periodic training for all persons involved in management, use, or operation of Federal computer systems that contain sensitive information. The Act aimed to improve the security and privacy of sensitive information in Federal computer systems without limiting existing scope of security measures.
