Brief

The Cigarette Ignition Propensity (Consumer Products) Regulations aim to reduce fire risks associated with cigarettes. These regulations outline a standard for measuring how easily cigarettes ignite when burned. Specifically, they require cigarettes to burn their full length no more than 25% of the time in a standardized test using filter paper. The regulations also exclude certain types of tobacco products and provide an exemption for research or laboratory testing purposes. They came into force 180 days after registration.
