Brief

The Canadian Retailers Duty Remission Order, 1993 is an order made by the Governor General in Council to grant remission of customs duties on certain products imported into Canada. The order, which came into effect on August 26, 1993, grants remission of customs duties paid or payable under Schedule I of the Customs Tariff on a wide range of goods, including golf bags, downhill ski-boots, portable butane hair curlers, electronic calculating machines, and various other consumer electronics and sporting equipment. The order specifies that the remission is granted subject to certain conditions, including that the goods must be imported during a specified period (August 26, 1993 to December 31, 1997) and that a claim for remission must be made to the Minister of National Revenue within two years after the date of importation.
