The Broadcasting Fees Regulations outline the rules for broadcasting undertakings to pay fees to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). The regulations define key terms such as "fee revenue," "exemption level," and "broadcasting ownership group." They require broadcasting ownership groups with fee revenues exceeding the exemption level ($25 million) to file a fee return with the CRTC annually by November 30th. Broadcasting fees are calculated based on the Commission's estimated total regulatory costs, which are published in the Canada Gazette, Part I. The regulations also provide for interest and administrative charges on overdue fees. Transitional provisions apply to broadcasting undertakings that transitioned from the Broadcasting Licence Fee Regulations, 1997. The regulations come into force on April 1, 2024.
