COMMISSION IMPLEMENTING REGULATION (EU) designating European Union reference laboratories for public health on food- and water-borne bacteria; on food-, water-, and vector-borne helminths and protozoa; and on food- and water-borne viruses

The Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/2959 was published by the European Commission on November 29, 2024. This regulation designates European Union reference laboratories for public health in the areas of food- and water-borne bacteria, food-, water- and vector-borne helminths and protozoa, and food- and water-borne viruses. The regulation aims to strengthen public health efforts by supporting national reference laboratories, promoting good practices, and enhancing diagnostic methods for uniform disease surveillance and reporting across Member States. The designated laboratories will collaborate with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and other EU bodies to improve food and water safety monitoring.
