Brief
The Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/2563 of 24 September 2024 amending Implementing Regulation (EU) 2022/1646 has been adopted by the European Commission. This regulation aims to enhance the accuracy and completeness of national risk-based control plans and national randomised surveillance plans in the agricultural sector, ensuring more effective monitoring and enforcement of food safety regulations.
The amendment will have a significant impact on the industry, as it requires Member States to submit more detailed information about their control plans and surveillance plan. This includes justifying the selected substances, species, products, and matrices included in the plans, as well as taking into account cases of non-compliance detected in previous years. Importantly, this regulation also clarifies that Member States are required to transmit data to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) by 30 June each year, with final acceptance completed by 31 August.
The amendment will apply from 1 January 2025 and will be binding in its entirety across all Member States.
