Brief
Summary:
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has welcomed a High Court ruling that dismissed an application by Zaisan Khaihatsu to stop the auction of a luxury Bryanston house linked to an irregular Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) deal. The house, valued at R7.1 million, was auctioned on July 4, 2023, following a final forfeiture order by the Special Tribunal in January 2023. The SIU had accepted the offer as part of the implementation of investigation outcomes and consequence management to recover losses suffered by the State and the National Health Laboratory Services (NHLS). The SIU had investigated allegations of corruption and irregularities in procuring goods and services by State institutions in response to Covid-19, and found that Hamilton Ndlovu and his associates had obtained contracts worth R172 million without delivering the required PPE supplies.
