Brief
Summary:
A recent study by WIPO Pulse surveyed 25,000 people across 50 countries to gather insights on intellectual property (IP) knowledge and perceptions. The study found that 76% of people in Asia-Pacific, 70% in Africa, and 67% in Latin America and the Caribbean recognize the positive impact of IP on the economy. However, there is still a significant gap in IP knowledge, particularly among the youngest age group (18-25 years), where 18% knew what patents were and 19% knew about designs and models, whereas 32% were aware of author's rights. The study also confirms that right of authorship is the most well-known IP concept, followed by trademarks, geographical indications, patents, and designs and models.
