Brief

"On 28/10/2024, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) issued an update regarding TRAI's Continued Efforts to Combat Spam Calls and SMS Abuse.

In compliance with TRAI's Directions dated 20th August 2024, Access Providers have implemented mandatory whitelisting of URLs, APKs, or OTT links in messages with effect from 1st October 2024. This measure aims to protect consumers from harmful or fake websites, apps, or other online threats by only allowing safe and approved links to pass through the SMS.

Additionally, TRAI has taken measures to strengthen message traceability, with Access Providers implementing technical solutions to track entities involved in sending messages to recipients. The new system ensures that each person handling the message is tracked, from the sender to the final recipient."
