Brief

"On 25/10/2024, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) issued an update regarding TRAI releases Regulations namely "Rating of Properties for Digital Connectivity Regulations, 2024".

These regulations aim to create a rating system for digital connectivity in buildings, promoting collaborative and self-sustainable approaches. The ratings will be based on various criteria, including property type, size, and complexity, with scores ranging from one star to five stars.

The regulations also prohibit exclusive arrangements between telecom service providers and property managers for digital connectivity development or access. An online rating platform will be set up to manage the rating process, with entities fulfilling eligibility criteria intending to become Digital Connectivity Rating Agencies (DCRAs) being empanelled by TRAI through registration on the platform.

Additionally, the regulations require property managers to register on the platform and pay fees for rating their properties, which will attract users, buyers, or investors and add value to the properties. The ratings will be awarded based on evaluation of properties against rating criteria and sub-criteria."
