Brief
Summary:
The Agreement between Japan and the Italian Republic on Social Security, which was signed on February 6, 2009, is set to enter into force on April 1, 2024. The Agreement aims to solve the problem of dual payment of insurance contributions by employees temporarily sent from one country to the other, and will allow them to be covered under the pension system of their original country provided that the detachment period does not exceed five years. This is expected to reduce the burden on companies and employees and promote people-to-people and economic exchanges between Japan and the Italian Republic. The Agreement will be the 23rd social security agreement for Japan, following 22 previous agreements with other countries.
