On August 28, 2023, the Federal Revenue Service (Receita Federal) and the Federal Police (Polícia Federal) launched Operation Tank to investigate organized crime money laundering, contraband of chemicals, and tax evasion in a network of fuel stations and distributors. The operation uncovered a complex scheme involving billions of dollars in illicit transactions, with suspected losses to the federal government estimated at over R$ 5 billion.
