SIU welcomes the recovery of stolen government land meant for low-income housing and a school

The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) welcomes a forfeiture order by the High Court of South Africa to recover stolen government land worth R53 million. The land, intended for low-income housing and a school, was fraudulently transferred to private entities and individuals. The SIU investigation, which uncovered corruption and maladministration, was authorized by the President of South Africa and involved the Directorate of Priority Crime Investigations (Hawks). The recovered land, worth R41 million, will be transferred back to the Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development, while RIC Development must pay R12 million. This is part of the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy to combat corruption.
