SIU completes 90% of phase 2 in the NLC investigation and makes new revelations

The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has completed 90% of the second phase of its investigation into the National Lotteries Commission (NLC) worth approximately R1.4 billion, allegedly lost due to corruption. The SIU presented new findings to Parliament, including revelations about award-winning actress Moitheri Pheto unduly benefiting from NLC grant funding. The SIU also uncovered misused funds meant for a chicken farming project in Marikana, North West province, and has made eight criminal referrals and 11 disciplinary referrals to NLC officials. The SIU is authorized to investigate corruption and maladministration in NLC affairs and recover financial losses suffered by the State.
