Sector employment equity (EE) targets “not a one-size fits all” – Department of Employment and Labour

Summary:

The Department of Employment and Labour and the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) hosted a national workshop on employment equity (EE) in Mbombela. The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the recently promulgated EE amendments, sector targets, and regulations. Deputy Director Masilo Lefika highlighted the importance of EE in achieving equity in workplaces and the key factors used in determining sector EE targets, including national and provincial economically active population statistics, sector charters and codes, 2022 EE workforce profile, and sector dynamics. The workshops aim to create awareness, demonstrate the online EE system, and generate certificates of compliance. The national series of workshops will continue until September 2023, targeting employers, academics, human resource practitioners, trade unions, employees, and other stakeholders.
