Prepared Together – Cyber Storm IX Recap

Summary:

Cyber Storm IX is a national-level cybersecurity exercise conducted by CISA (Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency) to enhance the readiness and resilience of organizations against cyber threats. The exercise simulated a coordinated cyberattack on critical infrastructure, involving over 2,200 participants from private sector companies, federal departments, and international partners. The exercise scenario focused on exploiting common misconfigurations in cloud environments, causing impacts on data confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Participants had the opportunity to exercise their response plans, foster relationships, and improve their cyber readiness through a simulated dark web and social media scenarios. The exercise aimed to demonstrate an end-to-end perspective, involving coordination with CISA, Sector Risk Management Agencies, and Information Sharing and Analysis Centers. The outcomes of Cyber Storm IX will be published later this year, and CISA offers exercise development support to stakeholders to increase resilience against both physical and cyber threats.
