The statistics are available in Excel format and can be accessed from the IPO’s website.

The monthly statistics cover the period from January 2022 to July 2023, with data on patents, trade marks, and designs. The statistics include the number of new applications, numbered applications, and registered patents, trade marks, and designs, as well as the number of renewals and cancellations.

The IPO provides a detailed breakdown of the statistics by type of patent, trade mark, and design, including information on the sectors and industries that are most active in IP filings. The statistics also provide insights into the geographical distribution of IP filings, with data on the regional and national breakdown of applications and registrations.

The IPO emphasizes that IP statistics should not be used alone to describe the level of innovation in the UK or as a measure of inventorship. Rather, the statistics provide a snapshot of the activity in the IP sphere, allowing stakeholders to track trends and patterns over time.
