On November 8, 2023, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) issued a penalty to Optus for breaches of emergency call rules. The breaches resulted from a nationwide network outage that affected over 2,145 people, causing significant disruption across Australia. A total penalty of more than $12 million was imposed on subsidiaries of Singtel Optus Pty Limited for failing to provide access to the emergency call service and conducting inadequate welfare checks during the outage.
