NHRC issues an Advisory to ensure welfare of Transgender Persons

Summary:

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued an advisory to ensure the welfare of Transgender persons. The advisory focuses on six key areas: access to education, healthcare, employment, inclusivity, welfare, and grievance redressal. The recommendations aim to address various challenges faced by Transgender persons, including discrimination, limited access to healthcare and employment, and exclusion from social circles. Some key recommendations include providing single transgender children of deceased government employees or pensioners with family pension and benefits, allowing Transgender persons to inherit ancestral agricultural land, and providing them with multi-purpose identity cards. The advisory also recommends setting up a Transgender Welfare Board and establishing a Transgender Protection Cell to monitor cases of offences against Transgender persons.
