Summary:
On March 11, 2024, the Brazilian National Council of Justice (CNJ) published Provision nu00ba 161, updating its regulations on preventing money laundering, financing of terrorism, and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (PLD/FTP). The need for the update stems from the experience accumulated since the entry into force of Provision nu00ba 88 in 2019 and the compilation of proposals for normative improvement, including the 4th round of the Brazilian system's evaluation conducted by the Group of Action Finance (Gafi) in October 2023. The updated provision includes revisions and updates to the classifications of communications to the Financial Activities Control Council (Coaf), Unidade de Inteligu00eancia Financeira do Brasil, and detailed procedures for monitoring, selection, and analysis of occurrences reportable to Coaf, strengthening internal controls within the activities developed by notaries and registrars. The provision enters into force on May 2, 2024, and questions regarding Provision nu00ba 161 can be addressed to the email extrajudicial@cnj.jus.br.
