"On August 25, 2009, Brazil promulgated the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and its Optional Protocol, United Nations treaties approved in 2006. Ratified by Congress with constitutional status, this treaty was the first international human rights instrument to integrate the Brazilian legal system with constitutional equivalence."
