Key ACCU milestone: Testing the new Savanna Fire Management tool

On 13/06/2025, the Department of Climate Change issued an update regarding Key ACCU milestone: Testing the new Savanna Fire Management tool. Two new savanna fire management methods are in development to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by using fires earlier in the dry season. The approach aims to prevent larger and more destructive wildfires later on. The department is releasing the Savanna Carbon Accounting Model (SavCAM) to support project operators in calculating abatement associated with their fire management efforts under the new methods. Feedback on the SavCAM tool will help refine it, and finalise development of the new methods.
