On August 3, 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice (Environment and Natural Resources Division), USDA APHIS, and USDA Office of the General Counsel signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Civil Judicial Enforcement of the Animal Welfare Act. This MOU aims to enhance collaboration among the agencies, establishing a framework for notification, consultation, and coordination on enforcement referrals, information sharing, and employee training. The agreement represents another step forward in enforcing the Animal Welfare Act and ensuring humane treatment of animals protected by the law.
