INPI 2024 key figures

This report aims to analyze and present the most recent data on patent, trademark, and design applications, as well as geographical indications, to understand the trends and patterns within the industry.

Effects on Industry:
The consolidation of industrial property title filings in 2024 is a significant development for the industry, indicating stability amidst economic uncertainty. The slight decline in trademark and design applications may be attributed to various factors such as market fluctuations or changes in business strategies. However, the increase in patent applications from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), micro-entrepreneurs, and project leaders is a positive sign, highlighting their growing interest in protecting their innovations.

Relevant Stakeholders:
The stakeholders affected by this update include businesses, particularly SMEs, which are essential for driving innovation and economic growth. Consumers are also indirectly impacted as they benefit from the protection of intellectual property rights, leading to improved product quality and increased competition. Other relevant stakeholders include policy-makers, academics, and industry experts who can leverage these data to inform their decision-making processes.

Next Steps:
To respond to the challenges facing the industry, it is essential for all stakeholders to work together to strengthen support for businesses in France, particularly SMEs. This may involve providing resources, training, or other forms of assistance to help them navigate the complexities of intellectual property law and secure their place in the market.

Any Other Relevant Information:
Historically, patent filings have experienced significant growth since 2020, with a remarkable increase of over 7.5% recorded during this period. The pandemic led to an unprecedented surge in trademark applications, indicating the importance of businesses protecting their brand identities during times of uncertainty. The recent signing of the Riyadh Treaty and publication of new EU directives aim to harmonize procedures and boost innovation, which may have a positive impact on design and model applications in the future.
