Brief

On "04/10/2024", the "Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC)" issued an update regarding "Important changes to customer identification obligations for online gambling service providers".

The AML/CTF Rules were amended in September 2023 to strengthen customer identification procedures (ACIP) for online gambling service providers, helping to prevent criminal exploitation. Online gambling service providers had a year to adapt their systems to these changes, with interim measures allowing them to delay ACIP in special circumstances.

From 29 September 2024, all online gambling service providers must complete ACIP before creating an online gambling account or providing designated services. They must verify customer identity comprehensively and check customers against the National Self Exclusion Register.
