"On March 23, 2025, the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment issued an update regarding High Pathogenicity Avian Influenza (H5N1) confirmed on Subantarctic Marion Island. Confirmation was made through Polymerase Chain Reaction testing, which showed six bird species were infected with the HPAI virus."
