Summary:

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) has reported a significant number of arrests and convictions for various crimes during the first quarter of the 2023/24 financial year. A total of 611 suspects have been arrested, with 229 convictions and sentences being handed down. The crimes include fraud, money laundering, narcotics, and endangered species, among others. The DPCI also reported successes in dealing with human trafficking, with seven potential victims rescued and nine suspects arrested. Additionally, the agency has strengthened its collaboration with the South African Revenue Service (SARS) and other organizations to combat tax administration offences, contravention of customs and exercise laws, and other financial crimes.
