Brief
Summary:
The UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO) has launched a consultation on implementing the Beijing Treaty on Audiovisual Performances. The Treaty aims to provide intellectual property rights for audiovisual performers, such as actors, musicians, and dancers, in films, TV programs, and other recordings. The government is seeking views from stakeholders, including performers, broadcasters, producers, and Collective Management Organisations (CMO), to inform its decision on how to implement the Treaty. Two preferred options are proposed: introducing exclusive rights for broadcasting and/or communication to the public, or introducing a right of equitable remuneration for performers. The consultation will help ensure the government's final decision is comprehensive and based on the best evidence, and is expected to close on November 9, 2023.
