Brief

"On 01/11/2024", the "Australian Competition and Consumer Commission" issued an update regarding Getty Images to refund customers for allegedly misleading iStock subscription cancellation charge.

The ACCC found that Getty Images may have misled customers by stating that cancelling a subscription after a one-month free trial period would only incur an “administrative charge” of 50 per cent of the remaining cost. This charge was deemed excessive and not fully explained by administrative costs, leading to significant consumer complaints about iStock subscriptions.

Getty Images has since amended its statements on the iStock website, notified customers of their upcoming subscription end dates, and committed to refunding approximately $78,000 to over 200 affected customers. The ACCC is pleased with Getty's responsiveness to customer feedback and concerns, and no further enforcement action is proposed.
