On March 15, 2024, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a $12.25 million civil penalty settlement with Fitbit LLC for failing to immediately report a defect in its Ionic smartwatches that caused burns and injuries to consumers. The company received reports of overheating devices from 2018-2020 but did not comply with reporting requirements until a recall was initiated on March 2, 2022.
