On "24/11/2024", the "Australian Government" introduced a new migration law into Parliament. The Migration Amendment (Prohibiting Items in Immigration Detention Facilities) Bill 2024 aims to expand search and seizure powers, allowing for targeted searches and seizures without reasonable suspicion of drugs being concealed. The Australian Human Rights Commission has expressed concern that this proposal goes beyond their recommendations and may infringe on individual human rights.
